Verify a Device ๐Ÿ“œ

Testlio needs to run tests on specific devices to reliably deliver valuable results. Verifying your devices helps you make sure that the information about your devices is up-to-date so that you are eligible for testing on specific devices. Clients require valid information about the coverage provided, so having a verified device ensures you can be a part of that testing.

Only certain devices are eligible for verification and eligible devices require regular verification to ensure they still have the same characteristics.

When to Verify

You can verify eligible devices whenever you want from your device list. Expand the relevant device and click Verify or Reverify to start the verification process. This enables you to verify your devices in advance of any tasks, such as when your operating system changes versions.

If you have been invited to complete a task that requires a specific mobile or tablet device, you may be asked to verify your device before you test if you have not done so recently.

Verify a Device

After starting the verification process at the right time, follow these steps:

  1. Click โœ…Verify device.

  2. Scan the QR code or, alternatively, open the link in your device.

  3. Wait for device to be verified.

  4. Click Continue.

A QR code with instructions to scan it, a link to copy if it doesn't work, and device info

Your device is now verified and you can continue with testing.

Verification App

In most cases, you can verify your device without installing anything on your phone.

In some cases, you may need to install the Testlio Verification app. Once you've installed the app, restart the verification process. You do not need to open the app yourself as it opens when you scan the QR code.

What To Do If Verification Doesnโ€™t Work

There are two possible reasons the verification could fail:

  • A mismatch (the information from your device doesnโ€™t match the data in the Testlio platform)

  • An error (no information was collected)

Testing with a device that does not match the information entered in the Testlio platform represents a breach of the Freelancer Services Agreement. Try to verify your device. Reach out to your Test Lead if you are having issues with verification.

Mismatches

The data collected by the Testlio platform might not match what you entered in the platform for two reasons:

  • The information you entered is outdated (such as an OS update).

  • The Testlio platform collected incorrect data.

If your device doesnโ€™t match the data collected by the Testlio platform, update any outdated information in the platform and then reach out to your Test Lead.

If the information in the platform is outdated, Test Lead needs to create a new task to match the correct information, if it is possible. If the platform collected incorrect data, a record of this is necessary.

Only with explicit permission from your Test Lead, you then have two options:

  • Click Update device & continue to update the data in the Testlio platform and continue the task with this device marked as verified.

  • Click Ignore collected info to keep the existing data, mark the device as unverified, and continue the task. This allows you to continue if the verification process has an error.

Do not choose either of these options without explicit approval from your Test Lead. Doing otherwise represents a breach of the Freelancer Services Agreement.

Failures

If the verification process fails, you have two options:

  • Click Try again to try the process again.

  • Click I was unable to verify my device to mark the device as unverified and continue the task.

Failures can occur for reasons outside your control. If the process fails, please try again at least twice. If all three tries fail, let your Test Lead know and get approval to continue the task. Testlio reviews all failures to check for compliance and to solve any issues blocking verification.
