Since Testlio began, we have pledged to offer our freelancers hourly rates that exceed market standards. We believe that fair compensation is essential to building a strong, sustainable testing community.

Below is a table that displays hourly pay rate ranges for Testlio freelancers in various countries. These ranges are based on three roles: tester (manual quality assurance), test lead (tester support), and quality engineer (automated testing development and management). Please note that each country is categorized into different tiers, and pay rate ranges are determined according to each country.

FAQ

What are the factors that influence a country's pay rate range?

Pay rates by country are primarily based on cost of living factors. Testlio pegs rates against third party indexes that cross 100+ countries around the world.

How is my individual pay rate set?

Your pay rate is determined by several factors, including your role (e.g. tester vs test lead), tenure, expertise, skills, certifications, device list, and rating—along with client (workspace) specifics.

How can I increase my hourly rate within the pay rate range of my country?

There are a few things that you can do:

  1. Perform well. The Testlio system seeks to compensate freelancers who deliver predictable, consistently good results.

  2. Stick with it. The more hours you work with Testlio, the more likely you are to earn higher rates.

  3. Pursue additional Workspaces. Some of Testlio’s best opportunities are listed online in our new Work section. The freelancer section is here.

  4. Develop test lead and quality engineer skills. Typically, test leads earn more than testers whereas quality engineers earn more than test leads (although there is some overlap). To learn more, visit our test lead and quality engineer sections.

Note: Pay rate increases are instigated solely by the Testlio team based on their assessments within workspaces. If someone demonstrates exceptional performance and work ethic, they may be granted a higher workspace-specific rate or receive an overall increase in their hourly rate.
