Any type of testing that is performed on the Testlio Platform includes tasks - test plans to be executed during a Run, issues that need to be reproduced or verified, run results to be reviewed, tests to be updated, and much more. Tasks are a critical part of the Testlio Platform processes.
Note: Tasks can be created by Admins or Coordinators within the Testlio Platform.
Tasks module
Creating tasks within the Tasks module allows you to choose from all types of work available on the Testlio Platform. To invite someone to complete a task from the Tasks module, follow these steps:
In the Tasks module, click "New task".
For Executor, select who to invite to the task.
Select the type of task and give it a description.
Enter an estimate for the amount of time it will take.
Select when the task is due.
Click "Save".
Tasks within the Teams module
Creating tasks within the Teams module allows you to choose from all types of work available on the Testlio Platform. To invite someone to complete a task from the Teams module, follow these steps:
In the Teams module, choose a specific view that shows the user you want to invite.
Next to the specific user you want, click the three-dot menu.
Click "New task".
In the task modal:
Select the task type
Write up the instructions for the task you want the user to perform.
The instructions usually include the requirements for the task, the environment for performing the task, and other details you may find important for the person completing the task to be aware of.
Define the estimation for the task
Select the due date and time
Click "Save".
Tasks within the Runs module
Tasks within the Runs module are mostly related to executing test plans. To invite testers to execute a test plan, follow Creating a Task Within a Manual Run.
Tasks within the Issues module
Users can create five types of tasks through the Issues module:
Fixed issue reproduction
Issue reproduction
Old issue verification
Other issue assignment
Improvement request
To create one of the first four kinds of tasks, select one or more issues from the issues list and click "New task".
To create a task to request improvements, open an issue and click the 3-dot menu. Then click “Request improvements”.
What happens after the task has been created?
Once you’ve invited someone to complete the task, they receive an invitation via email. They can now accept or decline your task. As an Admin or Coordinator, you can see the invitation status in the "Tasks" module.
To access the "Tasks" module, login to Testlio App, go to the selected Workspace and click "Tasks".
If the task has been declined by the original invitee, create a new task to invite someone else. (Tip: You can copy the instructions from the declined task description and re-use them when creating a new task.)
Statuses of task invitations
Tasks have the following statuses:
Invited: The task has been sent out to the user but the invitation has not been yet accepted, declined, or expired.
Accepted: The invitee has received and accepted the invitation to the task.
Declined: The invitee has received and declined the invitation to the task.
Expired: The invitee didn't respond to the invitation and the invitation has expired.
Expiration times
The current expiration times for the tasks vary based on the task:
For issue reproductions and for all tasks in the Teams/Tasks module, we use 24 hours expiration.
Invitations within Runs can be set within the run.
For Coordinator (Test Lead) invites within Runs, we use 24 hours.
NOTE: If users have set any custom expiration times per task, they will get precedence over the default expiration times.
