How to show screen taps in screen recordings?

Testers are required to show where they are tapping in the video recordings for the issue reports. This makes it easier for a viewer to understand the steps a tester followed to reproduce an issue. You can use the following steps to turn on this option on your phone:

  1. Go to the Settings app and search for Build Number

    1. If your Settings app does not have a search option, you can find the Build Number in the Software Information section.

  2. Click on the Build Number 7 times, it will enable the Developer options.

  3. Navigate to the Developer options and turn on the Show taps/ Show touches options.

Installing a Screen Recorder on Your Android Phone

The latest Android phones come with a built-in screen recorder and we recommend testers use them as their primary screen recording tools. If your phone does not have a built-in screen recorder, one good option is to download AZ Screen Recorder from here.

Steps to use AZ Screen Recorder are as follows:

  1. Launch the AZ Screen Recorder app.

  2. You will see options for recording, taking screenshots, live streaming, and more.

  3. Select the “Record” option and confirm to start recording.

  4. You can stop the recording by swiping down to your notifications and tapping on the “Stop” button.

  5. When you are not recording, the app keeps its logo overlaid on your screen to quickly access it. You can remove it by dragging it down to the X at the bottom.

Important Information

  • Do not use screen mirroring for your recordings as it gives an impression that real devices were not used while testing.

  • In Testlio, a video screen recording attachment has to be less than 10 MB and in .mp4 format and with a minimum resolution of 720p.

    • If your video is oversize, convert and reduce the size before you attach them to your issue report.

    • You can use the tips in this article to resize and convert video files.
